Chill out in downtown Chicago

You’ve heard of a vacation, and a staycation – well, now there is a new twist, the “chillcation.”

Rather than dreading winter, celebrate it by taking a weekend or even one night downtown to chill at one of three Hilton properties: the Hilton Chicago, the Palmer House Hilton or The Conrad.

My family of four chose to chill at The Conrad, where our 6-year-old twins were greeted with new rubber duckies for their bath and we were presented with sleep amenity options, two of which are complimentary with the chillcation package.

Amenities include a “pillow menu” for optimal comfort (who knew there were pillow connoisseurs?), a sleep sound machine or various hydration products such as moisture lock socks and a soothing aqua thermal mask. We selected the nightcap sleep elixirs (the Haute Cocoa Pot for the girls and Sleepyhead herbal concoctions promising to help promote a natural onset of sleep for us) that arrived at our room within minutes of placing our order.

The Terrace bar and restaurant was quite kid-friendly, so the girls joined us at a cozy table in their PJs for our Chillcation signature cocktail garnished with berries, a scrumptious dessert-like mixture that was the perfect end to the evening.

We decided to stay warm and cozy for the most part, but if your family wants to check out Chicago’s winter sights, the concierge will help you plan ahead of time, and The Conrad even has a special app to help speed along the process and customize your stay in advance.

Packages also include discounts at the spas, restaurants and room service. The Conrad does not have a pool, but privileges to the Hilton Garden Suites’ pool only half a block away kept us entertained.
