The thing about bringing kids to Caribbean islands is that it’s tough to show off the culture when you’re basking in the attentive service and pampering that comes with a tropic adventure at a high end resort.
At the Sheraton Nassau Beach Resort, a beautiful property with three swimming pools, an extensive kids club program, a wide stretch of pristine beach and optional meal plan, there’s no reason to ever leave the property. So the resort brings Bahamian culture to you via its Fireside Storytelling presentation.
The show includes a few Bahamian songs, pounding music that echoes in your soul, a high energy dance performance and enough audience participation to embarrass a teenager. Sadly, threatening skies drove the event indoors. It was nice, but definitely lost something in the transition from a beach setting under the stars, complete with a bonfire, tiki torches, junaknoo dancers and marshmallow roasting.
Still, if you find yourself at the resort on a night when the storytelling event is scheduled, take the kids and go. They shouldn’t go all the way to the Bahamas without getting at least a touch of Bahamian culture.
