ummer is an anticipated season for garage sale treasure hunting. But parents must exercise extreme caution in buying children’s products from yard sales, as the risk of inadvertently acquiring a recalled item is high. Check all items against the CPSC’s list of recalls at www.CPSC.gov. Visit www.KidsInDanger.org/publications and read Yard Sale Safety for more tips.

Recent recalls include:

Hooded youth sweatshirts and jackets by Brents-Riordan Inc. pose a strangulation hazard.

Imaginarium Multi-Sided Activity Centers and Jungle Activity Centers imported by Toys"R” Us Inc. pose a choking hazard to young children because small parts can detach.

Cuddly Cousins plush insect toys by Dollar Tree Stores Inc. contain small parts that pose a choking hazard to small children.

Fun‘N Games magnetic dart boards by Henry Gordy International Inc. pose intestinal and aspiration hazards because the small magnets at the ends of the darts can detach and be swallowed.

Little Builder children’s board book sets with toys by Dalmatian Press LLC are recalled because the cylinder on the toy concrete mixer and the tailgate on the toy dump truck can detach, posing a choking hazard to young children.

Lithium-polymer battery chargers and lithium-polymer batteries (used with toy helicopters) by Hobby-Lobby International Inc. pose a fire hazard because they can ignite while charging.

Beco Baby Butterfly carriers by Beco Baby Carrier Inc. are unsafe to use because the buckles on the carrier shoulder straps can unexpectedly release tension, causing the strap to slip through, posing a fall hazard to the baby.

Rio Beach high-boy folding beach chairs by Rio Brands pose a fall hazard because the rear leg of the chair can break.
