Cat and Mouse

With new baby KiKi in tow (7 weeks old already!), my son and I set out on a beautiful, sunny, warm, November (???) day for a coffee break and a little neighborhood wandering. We’d passed by the little store Cat and Mouse, intrigued, for months, heading to school down Armitage in our Bucktown neighborhood, but hadn’t stopped in until now – and what a fun surprise! If only we’d taken a look sooner!

Cat & Mouse Game Store fits right in with our new once a week family tradition: Game night. This family owned store specializes in non-electronic games and puzzles for all ages and interests, including a huge selection of family and strategy board games, particularly European-style games, card games, and classic games such as Chess and Go, as well as a wide variety of jigsaw puzzles and brainteasers. The in-store play area gives you a chance to test run games before purchase, and the knowledgeable owners are on hand to answer any questions or help choose age and interest appropriate gifts.

My son came across several games and toys that piqued his interest – and were educational to boot. He especially liked the Shark Billiards game. I’ll definitely be back on the sly to do some Christmas shopping. I’m focusing on supporting locally owned shops this holiday season: They keep our neighborhood unique and vibrant – and I like the special treatment and calmer atmosphere that simply doesn’t exist in big box stores.
