Draw a tic-tac-toe game on a napkin and include “tokens” like grapes, raisins, or pretzels to use as the game pieces.

A simple “I love you” can reassure a homesick younger child, while a knock-knock joke can make an older child smile. Tuck the note discreetly under a sandwich to ensure it remains private unless your child chooses to share.

Kids may groan at the word “leftovers” … so don’t use it! Instead, spruce up last night’s dinner in a fun, expected way. Make a grinder out of leftover meatballs, put chicken parm on a sandwich, and every kid loves taco salad.
