So who’s the most overrated musical artist of 2011? According to the opinion website sodahead.com, the overwhelming answer is the Bieb.
Yes, 53 percent of the 2600+ respondents to Sodahead’s year-end poll say the hype surrounding Justin Bieber is a bit much. Lady Gaga came in second place, with 17 percent of respondents saying she is overrated. Kanye West and Taylor Swift were in a virtual tie for third place (how ironic), with 12 percent of the vote. And a mere 6 percent of sodahead respondents think Katy Perry was overrated in 2011.
Sodahead is a web opinion site that is entirely unscientific. But it’s worth noting that the Bieb came out on top in a similar questions – with three times as many respondents – in August.
Almost half (40 percent) of the respondents voted Bieber overrated didn’t give their gender, but the other 51 percent was split evenly between men and women. Similarly, 51 percent of the people who voted for Bieber didn’t give their age. But of the other half, 63 percent are between the ages of 13 and 17, and 59 percent are between the ages of 18 and 24.
They didn’t survey people under 13. But if an incident I witnessed recently at a 9-year-old birthday party is any indication, he would be overrated with that demographic, too. When a Bieber song played in the bowling alley where the party was being held, about 15 kids simply sat under the scoring tables in protest till the song was over.
