Flying with kids is never easy, but flying with kids on Thanksgiving eve could be really tough this year.
The day before Thanksgiving is traditionally the busiest travel day of the year. And now a bunch of disgruntled flyers want to make it even worse by using that day to protest against the new full body scanners. They want people to refuse to submit to the scanners and instead demand a personal pat down.
If they succeed, it could mean that the security lines at O’Hare will take hours longer than necessary for all you poor people trying to have a nice family holiday. So plan accordingly. If you were planning to get to the airport two hours early, considering going three hours early. I know. I hate hanging around O’Hare too, especially with little kids.
If you take my advice and go really early, but no protest develops, don’t sit around cursing me because you have more than two hours to kill before your flight. Simply head over to Terminal 2 where the Chicago Children’s Museum has a kids’ play area. It’s for little ones, but my kids had fun in there when they were 10 and 12 and we were waiting for a delayed flight to take off.
As for the full body scanners, don’t believe everything you read in the media (said the woman who has spent her entire adult life working in the media). I’ve been through them and it’s really no big deal.
