Pin It! heads back to school

My son will be starting his official year of Pre-K this coming week and the ideas on Pinterest to usher in the school year are endless. Whether your kids have started school already or they will in the next few days, our school year roundup of pins will definitely help to make this time of year special.

Photo opps

If you’re paying a professional, this beautiful set-up is a great way to memorialize the grade as your child starts a new year. Get creative with handmade chalkboard signs. If you’re like me and would like to simplify things, take a picture of your child on their first day and then edit the picture to reflect a bit more about the upcoming year for them. Clicking through some of the pins above will give you ideas you might not have imagined.

Surprise the teacher!

Homemade cookies are always a nice treat on the first day of the school year. Little notes and sentiments show appreciation without going overboard or requiring huge expense. This trail mix printable is perfect to pair with a healthier snack and says so with pizzazz. I also love putting together these Teacher Survival Kits that bring together common items in a nice presentation.

Treats & eats

Whether you plan an elaborate breakfast or put together these sweet, “paper-lined” treats, your kids will flip for foods that represent the return to school. Last year, I surprised my niece and nephews with this Pencil Cookie Cake. Rather than baking a traditional cake and carving it to look like a pencil, I baked a cookie underneath (their favorite) and found the carving to be much easier. The frosting was store-bought and just dyed with food coloring making things much easier. These back-to-school lunchbox notes are sure to be a hit with your kids. Once my boys are in school full-time, I’d love to surprise them with this once or twice a week. Doing so daily might lose its effect (and mom might get tired!)
