Get out there and play
Bug out this weekend as giant creepy, crawly bugs have taken over the Morton Arboretum, 4100 Illinois Route 53, Lisle, for the summer. The“Big Bugs” exhibit is made up of 12 bugs—including an Assassin Bug which rises up three feet high and weighs 700 pounds. These bugs are made out of trees, which is a fantastic way to celebrate Arbor Day on Friday.
Everyone will receive a free kid-oriented bug detective guide that includes a map and clues that will help as you walk around Meadow Lake, where the bugs will reside throughout the exhibition. During this weekend’s opening“Bug Fest,” kids can create bee rings and color pictures of ladybugs. On Friday, from 1-3 p.m., you can meet the man behind the bugs, David Rogers.
In the Children’s Garden, your little ones can create bug masks to wear in a bug parade and learn about bug parts while they join in on the Build-a-Bug workshop. Crafts will be available throughout the summer, 1-4 p.m. weekdays and 11 a.m.-4 p.m. weekends through June 6 and 11 a.m.-4 p.m. daily from June 7-July 20.
