When it comes to bright, bold, and beautiful, there’s a new girl in town and she means business. Her name is Ann Taylor and she’s got a whole new look up her little cap sleeves.
This week I attended a very stylish soiree in honor of the grand opening of the new Ann Taylor concept store located smack dab in the middle of Michigan Avenue. The event was held on the eve of its opening and featured designer cocktails, yummy passed snacks, and a sneak peek at the delicious new Ann Taylor collection for spring.
Cute dude servers weren’t bad either.
I spoke with Andrew Taylor (below with me), style director for Ann Taylor and he told me that a lot of forethought and creativity went into the design and aesthetic of this new store. And it’s apparent from the moment you step inside.
Although it’s quite spacious, you get a sense you’re in a swanky upscale SoHo boutique. The lighting is elegant and walls and floor are pure white, which make the bold pops of color even more magnificent.
And when I say color, I mean COLOR!! The collections are thoughtfully organized into “color stories,” making it simple and fun to put outfits together and find just what you need. And then there are the dressing rooms. Beautifully appointed with lovely furniture and very forgiving, diffused lighting. That alone is worth celebrating.
The evening also took spring fashion to a more meaningful level by benefitting the Step Up Women’s Network. An amazing organization that helps young women in under-served communities get a “step-up” by pairing them with female mentors who help them see their own brilliant potential, and teach them the skills they’ll need to meet their dreams head on. Step up offers teen programs, professional development and social networking, and is always looking for volunteers.
I got to browse the collections, chat with fashion-loving pals, and dream of spring and what color I want to wear first.
Nothing like a hip chick DJ providing the back ground shopping tunes.

The store is a lovely addition to the Mag Mile, and I’m sure it will be a bustlin’ all spring, summer and beyond. Ann Taylor is coming a bit out of her shell these days, and I think you’re going to love her new look.
