5 simple ways to spring clean your life

The days are getting longer, the sun is peeking out from the clouds and it almost seems safe to pack away your winter parka. If you have the urge to clean and organize your entire house, that’s great! But if that idea sounds too overwhelming, here are five easy tips for a quick refresh insead.

Set new intentions

A new season is the perfect time to set new intentions. How do you want to feel when summer rolls around? Keep that feeling in the back of your mind and set some intentions on how to get there. Even better, make this a family discussion and ask yourself these questions at the dinner table one night this week.

Reassess your calendar

When is the last time you took the time to take an honest look at your family calendar? The logistics of managing a family calendar can be tedious, but maybe it’s time to see how you are spending your hours.

Now that you have new intentions for the season, think about how you’re spending your time. You wouldn’t miss a meeting with your boss if was on your calendar, so why not treat workouts that way? What about date nights? Spend a Sunday morning with coffee looking at your calendar and making time for what’s important to you.

Clean up your beauty routine

Your health is important and what we put on our body is just as important and what goes in. Non-toxic beauty is a hot topic because of the lack of regulation in the beauty industry. It can be confusing and intimidating to clean out your beauty cabinet, so start small.

A good rule of thumb is to start with the products that spend the most time on your body: makeup, lotions and deodorant. Run your typical choices through the Skin Deep database, removing the highest offenders first and replacing them with cleaner choices one by one. No need to overhaul, this is a sprint not a marathon!

Streamline your wardrobe

Spring cleaning typically suggests images of trash bags filled with old, outdated clothing ready to be dropped off at the local donation center. While you’re at it, consider creating a capsule wardrobe for spring. Simply pack away clothes you are not ready to part with yet and leave this season’s wardrobe front and center. Your mornings will be much easier this way, trust us!

Mix up your meal plan

You have set goals for the season, determined how you are going to spend your time, what you’ll wear and even cleaned up your makeup. Finally, add some new recipes to your arsenal! Soon your local Farmer’s Market will be opening and now is the time to start taking advantage of seasonal eats. Add some asparagus to the mix this spring and get excited for the warmer months to come!
