25th anniversary compilations not to miss

In these times of economic unsteadiness, where only the strongest of the strong business plans seem to withstand the surge of change, it is worth noting the accomplishments of Music For Little People, a children’s music label celebrating its 25th year of creating meaningful music for children and families.

Music For Little People will commemorate this milestone by releasing a series of CD compilations throughout the year. In January it released its first two projects: Pickin’& Grinnin’-Great Folk Songs for Kids and Love& Peace-Greatest Hits for Kids. February brought the DVD: Toddler Favorites-The Movie, the successor to the platinum-selling CD Toddler Favorites. To date, this CD has sold more than 1.2 million units and reached #1 on Billboard’s “Top Kid Audio” chart.

Pickin’& Grinnin’ features a superstar cast of folk music artists, including Woody Guthrie, Pete Seeger and Doc Watson, along with a diverse group of artists including Dan Zanes, Sweet Honey In The Rock and Dave Grisman in a duet with Bonnie Raitt.

Love& Peace mixes it up too, with an eclectic set of songs from artists including Willie Nelson, Sheila E., Los Lobos, Ladysmith Black Mambazo and the ever-popular Laurie Berkner Band. One of my all-time favorite songs is featured here, too-“If I Had A Hammer” performed by Brian Johnson of AC/DC.

Leib Ostrow, founder and record producer, summed it up best when he said, “I’d like to think that in spite of the challenges of this complicated planet of ours, Music For Little People has touched the world in its own little way with a vision of empowering children and families with multi-cultural music and loving kindness.”

It is hard to believe that Music For Little People has released more than 100 titles. Be sure to check them out.
