New song hopes to spread awareness for disabilities

Changing the Face of Beauty, the grassroots campaign by Katie Driscoll to include more people with disabilities in advertising, has inspired two central Illinois women to create a song they hope will help spread awareness for the campaign worldwide.

“After meeting Katie and hearing her heart behind Changing the Face of Beauty, I was hooked. She is so passionate about it and describes it in a way that makes you want to be a part of something,” says Markie Maloof, a student at Illinois State University who performs the song with her sister, Micheline.

The Maloof sisters are active Viners with about 15,000 followers together and Driscoll says she fell in love with Markie’s voice but had never met her. She asked her to write a six-second jingle for the campaign and was surprised that within a week she was in Driscoll’s home singing to her family.

“You could hear a pin drop in my house. I could not believe it, it was like my mind being sung,” Driscoll says.

Changing the Face of Beauty is trying to sign up businesses to promise to include people with disabilities in their advertisers.

“I really just hope this song continues to raise awareness for Changing the Face of Beauty and opens people’s eyes to the fact that children with disabilities are the minority in advertising,” Markie Maloof says. “I am so honored to be a piece of the puzzle of this beautiful masterpiece that is being created.”

A portion of the proceeds from the song and video will go to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
