Museum celebrates African American history

Teaching kids about their African American heritage can be as easy as taking a trip to the newly reopened Bronzeville Children’s Museum on the city’s South side. Bronzeville recently moved to a larger location after outgrowing its former space in Evergreen Park.

The museum is geared towards kids ages 3-9 and includes interactive galleries and exhibits focusing on African American inventors, healthy eating and living and a tour of Africa. Kids can use their imaginations in exhibits such as the Binga Bank, Provident Hospital and a Jewel-Osco grocery store. Educational arts and crafts, film, games and toys are available in each gallery.

Located at 9301 S. Stony Island Ave. in Chicago, the museum is open from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Tuesday-Saturday. Tours are every hour between 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Admission to the museum is $5. For more information, visit bronze
