Chicago area museums vying to be the best

We all know Chicago museums are the very best in the world. Now is the chance to show them some love by making sure everyone else knows it, too.

According to Kohl Children’s Museum, Chicago pride is on the line in the latest readers choice awards being conducted by USA Today.

Kohl, the busy children’s museum in Glenview, is on a quest to be named the best children’s museum in the country, as ranked by USA Today. As of Jan. 30, it was in fourth place in voting by the public behind City Museum in St. Louis, the Children’s Museum of Indianapolis and The Magic House in St. Louis.

They’re urging Chicagoland parents to vote once a day until Feb. 17 to keep the title from going to rival city St. Louis.

“We’re so excited to be recognized for the impact we have on our Chicagoland children. Our museum exists because of one simple philosophy: We value the role of play in a child’s life. We understand that children use play to explore, discover and understand the world around them. They thrive as active learners and so we have created an environment that is child-led and child-empowered,” says Mike Delfini, Kohl Children’s Museum president and CEO.

A few other of our favorite museums are also up for a vote.

Both the Field Museum and MSI are considered among the best science museums in the U.S. As of Jan. 30, Field was ranked third and MSI 11th.

When it comes to the best art museums, the Art Institute of Chicago earns props. It is currently ranked 7th.

Always on our top lists of free things to do, the National Museum of Mexican Art is sitting at No. 2 behind the National Infantry Museum & Soldier Center in Columbus, Ga. as the country’s best free museum.

The area’s newest museum, The Mascot Hall of Fame in Whiting, Ind., is vying for title of best new museum. It is currently fifth.
