17 Trunk or Treat Events Your Kids Will Love

While it’s traditional to collect candy door-to-door for Halloween, consider an alternative form of trick-or-treating. Trunk or treat events allow costumed children to collect candy through a parking lot as they stop at cars decorated for Halloween. Check out a few trunk or treat events happening in the Chicago area.

Chicago

Trunk or Treat 3.0

When: Oct. 10

Where: 1850 S. Throop St., Chicago

Join Pilsen Food Pantry for its annual neighborhood party! This is a free, music-filled party featuring hand sanitizer, masks, distanced trick-or-treating, pumpkins, costumes, balloons and more.

EPLC Trunk or Treat

When: Oct. 21

Where: Edison Park Lutheran Church Preschool, 6626 N. Oliphant Ave., Chicago

Momentum Performing Arts will be leading spooky dance instruction at 4:30 p.m. Masks are required and social distancing is encouraged.

Belmont Cragin United Trunk or Treat

When: Oct. 23

Where: 1740 N. Kostner Ave., Chicago

Cook Brothers is hosting its second annual trunk or treat event in the store’s parking lot.

Oakwood Shores Trunk or Treat Harvest Fest

When: Oct. 30

Where: 3825 S. Vincennes Ave., Chicago

Come together and brighten the community’s spirit this fall by giving the children of Oakwood Shores a special treat. You can participate by decorating the trunk of your car and filling it with candy.

Where: The Ark of St. Sabina, 7800 S. Racine Ave, Chicago

Join the ARK of St. Sabina as it hosts a “Trunk or Treat” in St. Sabina’s parking lot. Come out for a few hours of safe family fun. Masks must be worn.

Belmont Assembly Trunk-or-Treat

When: Oct. 31

Where: 6050 W. Belmont Ave., Chicago

Drive your car through one of the lanes Belmont Assembly of God is setting up in the church parking lot and enjoy numerous treats and visual feats — all from the safety of your vehicle.

North/Northwest Suburbs

Trunk or Treat

When: Oct. 30

Where: 1025 Randall Road, Elgin

Trick or treat at more than 35 cars decorated for the party, take socially distant pictures with special characters and pick up a fun Halloween craft.  

Niles Trunk or Treat

When: Oct. 31

Where: 7877 N. Milwaukee Ave., Niles

Families will drive along the parade of decorated Park District, Village and local business vehicles and be given a treat! Ghouls, ghosts and goblins will stay in the car, but are encouraged to dress up and decorate their cars. 

Trunk or Treat in The Beacon Lot

When: Oct. 31

Where: The Beacon Tap, 1374 Lee St., Des Plaines

The Beacon Tap will have hot dogs and pizza slices for sale as well as goodie bags and games. Social distancing is encouraged. 

South Suburbs

Trunk or Treat

When: Oct. 17

Where: McCord Gallery and Cultural Center, 9602 W. Creek Road, Palos Park

This event provides children with a safe space to trick or treat and allows businesses and organizations to help their community during these interesting times.

Trunk or Treat with the Black Oak Tavern

When: Oct. 24

Where: 9630 S. Pulaski Road, Oak Lawn

During the trunk or treat, adults will decorate the back of their cars for Halloween, load up with candy, and sit in a parking lot for kids to “trick or treat” from car-to-car. Face masks are required.

Where: 14500 Kostner Ave, Midlothian

Vehicles and kids are encouraged to dress up in their best Halloween costumes. Due to COVID-19, only 50 people will be let in at a time. All participants must wear a mask (Halloween masks do not count).

Come in a costume to receive goodies from the parade of socially-distanced decorated cars before the official trick-or-treating hours begin.

Western Suburbs

Drive-Thru Trunk-or-Treat

Where: 935 Maple Ave, Downers Grove

Cars will creep through the Lincoln Center parking lot and stop at spooky stations hosted by local businesses and organizations.

When: Oct. 24

Where: 1105 Catalpa Lane, Naperville

Enjoy trick-or-treating from car to car, Halloween crafts, inflatables, games and cookie decorating.

Where: 113 S. Cass Ave., Westmont

With proper precautions, Holy Trinity Catholic Parish will able to hold trick-or-treating for Holy Trinity School families and families from the Westmont community in the large parish commuter parking lot.
