Tourist from all over the world flock to Chicago to visit our museums, the Magnificent Mile and our lakefront. But many of us “lifers” take those attractions for granted. This summer, why not be a tourist in your own city? Doubletree Magnificent Mile has some great family-oriented packages that can make the trip easy and affordable.
My family took advantage of the “Doubletree in 3-D” package on a recent weekend and saw the city from a whole new viewpoint.
Armed with our complimentary cookies, we headed up to the 32nd floor to drop off our bags. The highlight of our room was its cushioned window seat with a view of the city. The boys settled there, eating their snack, while catching glimpses of the lake and finding a few landmark buildings. Then, it was off to explore a little city nightlife. We had parked our car in the building ($40 for 24 hours), so we decided to do our exploring on foot. Given Doubletree’s location, we were able to walk the Magnificent Mile shops and take our pick from a number of popular eateries without tiring out a 6-year-old’s little legs. If you’d rather stay in, the hotel also has a fine restaurant with a well-priced children’s menu.
The next morning, we had an easy breakfast from the lobby bagel shop before officially checking out and storing our bags in the car. Since the car could stay in the lot a full 24 hours, we used our second day to take advantage of the “3-D” part of our package-four tickets to the IMAX theater at Navy Pier. Again on foot, we made the 10-minute walk to the pier. We chose the new movie “Born to be Wild” and found both the movie and the IMAX experience wonderful.
