With all the mac n’ cheese making, the laundry folding (does it EVER end?) and the constant carpooling, it is evident that moms need a break. Not just an hour or two at the spa or gym, either. What moms need is at least a FULL 24 hours away, without having to clean a sippy cup, so that they can get the chance to fill their proverbial cup.
Before you start feeling guilty, call up your mom squad and plan your girls’ getaway weekend! These three destinations are close enough so that you can get home in case of emergency but also so fun and relaxing you may as well be a world away from your typical “mom life.”

After 10 minutes of meandering through Galena, you will understand why it is considered one of the most beautiful cities in the Midwest. The rolling hills and breathtaking views add to its small town charm and will encourage even the busiest mom to slow down and savor the little things. There are many wineries and tasting rooms to enjoy local grape varietals and you can even stay amongst the vines at Galena Cellars. History buffs will enjoy taking a trolley tour to view all of the historic homes while more adventurous moms may take a horseback ride or a flight in a hot air balloon.
