Find the world’s largest things in Casey, Illinois

Are you a fan of roadside attractions? You must make plans to visit Casey, Illinois. Located just 4 hours south of Chicago, the adorable small town packs plenty of big fun — literally! The town currently holds the record for having eight of the world’s largest things. World’s largest mailbox? Check. World’s largest wind chime? Check.

Since our family is always on the lookout for interesting road trip stops, I knew a visit to Casey needed to happen on our latest road trip. And what a fun time we had! We’re happy to say that it’s worth all the buzz and you should plan a trip soon. So go ahead, grab your selfie stick and prepare yourself. Here’s what you need to know:

There are eight items certified as the world’s largest by Guinness World Records.

The town of Casey, Illinois holds the following:

    • The World’s Largest Wind Chime

    • The World’s Largest Rocking Chair

    • The World’s Largest Pitchfork

    • The World’s Largest Golf Tee

    • The World’s Largest Mailbox

    • The World’s Largest Knitting and Crochet Hook

    • The World’s Largest Wooden Shoes. (The World’s Largest Knitting Hook and Crochet Hook are located at the same location.)

Look for more big items.

Not only does the town showcase some of the world’s largest items, but they also have a bunch of big items to look out for including a wooden token, rocking horse, toy airplane, yardstick, ear of corn, pencil, birdcage, a Minion, spinning top, bookworm and a baseball bat.

Most attractions can be seen at any time.

All of the attractions can be viewed outdoors anytime except for the knitting hook, crochet hook, and wooden shoes. Their viewing opportunity depends on the store hours since they are located indoors. They do, however, have a window to peek through.

Plan ahead.

Make your life easier and grab a map of all the items. Try the Whitling Whimsy Café or Casey’s Candy Depot. You can also plan ahead and check it out online.

Park near Main Street.

You’ll find most of the world’s largest items and other big things located along downtown’s Main Street, so I’d suggest finding a parking spot then walking to the attractions. A few attractions are located away from Main Street and may require a short walk or drive away from downtown including the World’s Largest Pitchfork and the World’s Largest Golf Tee.

Send snail mail.

How many times can you say you’ve mailed something in the World’s Largest Mailbox? Yes, make sure to grab a postcard and drop it in here.

Eat there.

Get food at Whitling Whimsy with a prime spot of the World’s Largest Wind Chime. You can also see the Guinness World Records 2017 book, which contains the town of Casey in the books. Another restaurant to consider is Richards Farm Restaurant, located next to the World’s Largest Pitchfork.

Grab a cold treat.

There’s an ice cream shop located next to the World’s Largest Mailbox.
