Summertime fun at Westfield Old Orchard shopping center

The Westfield Old Orchard shopping center is my fave place to stroll around and shop. I like the outdoor setting, and it seems like everywhere I turn there is a cute sitting area complete with pretty flowers. It has been my go-to spot for special occasion outfits for years. I even found my 8th grade graduation dress there! These days I wear flats much more often than gowns and heels, because I need to chase around my 16-month old, and he’s quick! I visited Old Orchard recently with my son, and I’d like to share some reasons the mall could be a good fit for your crew too.

Get the wiggles out at the PlaySpace

The PlaySpace, situated near L.L.Bean on the north end of Old Orchard, intrigued my little guy. He darted around happily, and I was not afraid of him falling, because the PlaySpace has some type of soft material on the ground. Isaiah loved scooting through a tunnel and hanging out on the slide.  Older kiddos seemed to being having plenty of fun as well. My little guy requires constant spotting to keep him safe these days, but if your children are able to play independently, you’ll be made in the shade: There are several comfy looking seating options where parents can take a breather while still keeping an eye on little ones.

Kick back with kiddos on a trackless train

After your mini shoppers wear themselves out at the PlaySpace, continue the family fun on the Old Orchard Choo Choo Train. The boarding place for the train is steps away from the PlaySpace and a ride costs $4. This warm weather activity runs through October and could be a memorable reward for good behavior on a shopping trip.

Go big with family-friendly games

An area outside of Bloomingdale’s is slated to offer games in the next few weeks. Your clan can play with a massive chess set or get the family competition going with a good ol’ game of bags. Perhaps dad can horse around with the little ones there while mom practices the age-old art of uninterrupted shopping therapy?

Munch away the day

If your family works up an appetite at Old Orchard, you’ll find plenty of cute sitting areas for a quick snack. Families that snack together, stay together, right? My pick for a more substantial family meal at the mall is Noodles & Company, because the prices won’t bust the family budget, and I love the Wisconsin Mac & Cheese!

Old Orchard’s beautiful outdoor scenery, PlaySpace and other options for family fun make it an ideal pastime for those fleeting, carefree days of summer. Happy shopping!
