Posh Nosh at Steve’s Deli

Whether you’re looking for a new lunch spot or a fun place to meet up with mom friends in the city, Steve’s Deli may be the perfect fit.

The deli is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, serving a variety of sandwiches, soups, baked goods and calorie-conscious “platters.” The gleaming red, white and black décor harkens back to a bygone era while the restaurant’s chandeliers add a fancy twist. Simple touches such as coat hooks hanging on every wall make this spot even more inviting.

Since Steve’s is both a dine-in and take-out establishment, you enter right into a full display of food. My sons eagerly pressed their faces against cases of deli salads and warm entrees, which really got our taste-buds roaring. While we browsed the selections, the very friendly staff set up our table for five. The restaurant’s layout allows for flexibility in seating so large groups with strollers can fit just as comfortably as young couples.

Steve’s menu offers a huge variety of sandwiches, both hot and cold. Besides corned beef and pastrami, families will find specialty hot dogs, soups and even salad platters for the calorie-conscious. Kids get their own choices, including sandwiches, burgers and delicious store-made mac and cheese, which everyone at our table had to sample. My 9-year-old loved the slider-sized burgers, while my youngest happily hoarded the perfectly seasoned French fries, which were creatively served in miniature deep-fry baskets.

Stop by with kids 10 and under on April 2, “National Peanut Butter and Jelly Day” and “Children’s Book Day,” between noon and 1 p.m. for a free peanut butter and jelly mini-sandwich and a children’s book reading.

Steve’s is a great place to sit back, relax and do some people watching while you eat, and eat, and eat. Portions are generous, leaving plenty to share. And all of that was before dessert. From the moment we walked in and saw the sweets case, my sons were talking about the cupcakes and brownies.

Of course by the time we were done with lunch, there wasn’t room for another bite. No worries, our server was glad to make our dessert order to-go, in specially designed containers so not a lick of frosting was lost.
