Go-Ro Fresh, a farm supplying vegetables to wholesale customers in Chicago, transformed their 1840s barn into a charming farm market. The renovation turned out so well that they expanded their offerings beyond just produce. This led to the creation of the Go-Ro Pumpkin Pop-Up — a seasonal family event!
As you first enter the Pop-Up, pre-picked pumpkins of all sizes welcomes you including some gigantic ones. Find your perfect pumpkin for a photo op (including giant butterfly wings or the Go-Ro Pumpkin), or make sure to take it home!
Kids will flock to the playground or be entertained by the lawn games, while adults can relax with a cold beer or cider on tap at the Go-Ro Pub. Snacks like pizza and apple cider donut (a fall must!) are available here too.
But wait, there’s more! As you continue walking, you’ll come across another area packed with activities spread out across the large lawn. Here, you’ll find the most adorable petting zoo animals, paintball, a tile slide, a fun tricycle merry-go-round, a corn maze, and the chance to roll down in an oversized tube.
Plus, there is another opportunity to find your perfect pumpkin from the patch. If you’re feeling adventurous, there’s even a nature walk to enjoy! As you explore, keep an eye out for their friendly black cat, Stacy, who likes to wander around the grounds.
As you head out, you’ll pass through the beautifully restored barn — but the fun isn’t over yet! Inside, you’ll find even more activities, including a corn crib and Skee-ball. Finally, make your way through to the market, where you’ll find fresh vegetables and fruit for sale. This is also where you’ll pay for your pumpkins. During our visit, they were even offering free apple cider—how cool is that?
Is it worth it?
Absolutely! If you’re seeking fall activities without the crowds or hefty price tags, this is a must-visit. It might be a bit of a drive for some, but it’s definitely worth it. The Pop-Up is perfect for families with younger children. The farm is spacious but not overwhelming, offering plenty of activities to keep families engaged for a few hours.
Tips for families when visiting Go-Ro Fresh
- Pack a picnic. Alternatively, you can buy pizza and donuts. Either way, there are plenty of picnic tables around.
- Use the bathroom before your visit. We only found port-a-potties.
- Stop at the market for fresh veggies and fruit. Plus, they had free apple cider on our visit.
- Go apple picking. All Seasons Orchard is just a few minutes down the road.
- Go on a fall hike. Pleasant Valley Conservation Area, Marengo Ridge Conservation Area, or Coral Woods are about a ten minute or less drive away and offer amazing fall color hiking opportunities.
