Firemen’s Park, which is nestled away from the busyness of nearby downtown Evanston, could be a great stop for family fun. It answers the fun call for kiddos, plus it offers interesting features for parents, too!

The park is named in honor of all firefighters and this monument displays a prayer for them. I appreciate things like this that parents can take in at the park while little ones run and play.

Butterflies fluttered around the garden surrounding the monument, so be sure to slow down to spot a Monarch.
My husband and I loved seeing this old school fire truck while our little guy was more concerned with testing out all of the playground equipment.

It’s not every day that you can get up close to one of these cool trucks!

I can’t get enough of these little free lending libraries! Benches nearby came in handy, because I found a great book to read to my son Isaiah, but he had other plans, preferring his very intense and thorough exploration of the park.

When we visited in the morning, almost the entire play area was in the shade, except for the baby swings. The tree canopy made such a big difference on the hot summer day!

Isaiah had a blast perfecting his balance in this car, and the playground seemed to be a hit for a wide age range of kids who were playing there as well. I feel obliged by parent code to mention that the park does not have bathrooms, but it’s small, so you probably won’t want to stay for more than an hour anyway.
