Cuddle baby animals this month at Enjoy Pioneer Farm

My family’s latest adventures took us to a Hampshire, a small local town located between Elgin and Rockford. We visited Enjoy Pioneer Farm, a working farm with a “Hold a Baby Lamb” event on the weekends. If you’ve ever wanted to hold baby farm animals in a real farm environment, this is a wonderful place to do so. The memories from our visit our priceless!

Hold baby farm animals

When we first walked into the small yet intimate barn at Enjoy Pioneer Farm, we were immediately greeted by the bleating of goats, baaing of lamb and sheep, and the clucking of chicken.

After plopping down on hay, we were given baby animals to hold by Carol, the owner. We held baby chicks just a few days old, brushed a pig’s hair, cuddled with bunnies (which, according to my son, feel as soft as his stuffed animal), and held a baby lamb and baby goat. We were even able to walk a baby calf around outside. You’ll lose count of the number of times you’ll hear “Awww.” The entire experience was amazing, and one that everyone won’t forget! But head out to Hampshire quickly, there are two more weekends this month to enjoy this part of Enjoy.

Rent baby chicks or ducklings

After holding baby chicks or ducklings, you may never want to let go. Well, you’re in luck — you can rent two baby chicks or ducklings for two weeks! (The last opportunity to rent is May 13) My boys immediately fell in love with the baby chicks and begged to bring them home. Quite honestly, I almost gave in since they were surprisingly gentle with them. Maybe next time?

Learn where your food comes from

Sign up for Enjoy’s U-Pick CSA that starts in June for 20 weeks. Families can choose a Full Share (every week) or Half Share (every other week), and can come when it’s convenient. Learn how to dig potatoes or pick sweet corn. With more than 100 different varieties of vegetables, the whole family can try foods that they’ve never had before. What a great way to encourage healthy eating! Celebrate the end of the season with a fall Harvest Blessings Party; pick squash and pumpkins, then enjoy a campfire with a cookout.
