Finding a good playground is like finding a needle in a haystack. Some are too big; others are too small; many are outdated and not ADA accessible. But luckily, Skokie is offers a variety of playgrounds for young explorers of every age, size, and ability.
From playgrounds with ziplines and interactive musical stations to double decker merry-go-rounds and sandpit stations, here are some of our favorite playgrounds in Skokie.
Central Park
- Address: 9350 Central Park Avenue, Skokie
This “Floor is Lava” themed playground, which was redone last year, welcomes kids with its electric blue and neon orange hues. The structures cater to climbers with various rock, rope and ladder structures to climb on. Friends of all ages will love riding in a double decker merry-go-round and a life raft seesaw where they can move in multiple directions. This playground also puts parents’ fears about injuries at ease, as it sits on a padded rubber surface.
Hamlin Park
- Address:7651 Hamlin Avenue, Skokie
Hamlin Park boasts the only playground with a zipline in Skokie. When kiddos aren’t gliding through the air, they can go down one of five slides or grab some friends for a ride in a giant spinning ball or 4-seat see-saw. Grown-ups and little ones will especially love some together time in a Buddy Swing or challenging each other at an interactive playground station.
Oakton Park
- Address: 4701 Oakton Street, Skokie
If you’ve got kiddos of varying ages, Oakton Park Playground is the perfect place for them to hang! With robust big and little kid structures, siblings will enjoy this multicolored play space with various levels, slides and climbing structures. Bring a bucket and some shovels – the tots will love uncovering dinosaur bones in two large sandpits.
Schack Park
- Address: 6940 Laramie Avenue, Skokie
An elevator is not something you often find at a playground, but Schack Park boasts a state-of-the-art feature that lets kiddos jump off the top of the centerpiece playground structure and descend to the ground. Other cool areas of this treehouse themed space include a climbing wall with nets, decks and ropes. Just outside of the playground, guests will find a sweet “Buddy Bench” where someone can sit when looking for someone to befriend and talk to.
