5 ways for Chicago families to celebrate NBA All-Star 2020

Your favorite basketball stars will be in the Windy City this month as the 69th NBA All-Star Game takes place on Feb. 16 at United Center. Even if you don’t have tickets to the official game, there are plenty of ways for Chicago families to enjoy some basketball fun during NBA All-Star 2020 weekend.

NBA Crossover

At Navy Pier, NBA fans of all ages can attend the ultimate event all weekend long. NBA Crossover features appearances by current and former NBA players, music performances and other interactive activities that the whole family will love. Tickets start at $20 for one-day and $55 for three-day passes.

Head to a sports bar.

Since the kids are off the Monday after for Presidents Day, why not make it a fun Sunday night? There are plenty of family-friendly sports bars to eat dinner and watch the game. Dress up in NBA attire to make it even more fun!

Go on a cruise.

Even if a cruise doesn’t come to mind when thinking about the NBA, Spirit of Chicago is still offering a Spirit All Star Weekend Lunch Cruise on Lake Michigan. On Feb. 15, families can enjoy a NBA-themed buffet along with DJ entertainment. Tickets start at $45.

Visit the Chicago Sports Museum.

Make it a sports weekend and spend some time at the Chicago Sports Museum at Water Tower Place. While the museum highlights Chicago teams, basketball fans would love to test their jump spot against Michael Jordan’s or compare their wingspan to Scottie Pippen. Tip: Dine at Harry Caray’s 7th Inning Stretch restaurant beforehand and the museum admission fee is waived.

Shoot some hoops.

Don’t let the cold stop you from playing some ball with the kids! Surprise the kids with a mini basketball hoop to play at home. You can also visit a nearby arcade like Lucky Strike Social (kids not allowed after 9 p.m.) or Dave & Buster’s to play the classic arcade basketball game. Bonus: You can watch some of the All-Star action while playing at the arcade or munching on some snacks.
