Celebrate Arbor Day at Morton Arboretum

Arbor Day has never merited a big celebration in our house, but at the Morton Arboretum, it’s a pretty big deal. Kids will love the chance to meet Curious George and parade to a tree-planting site, where they’ll read Curious George Plants a Tree, help the monkey shovel soil onto a tree’s roots and water it, too.Later, George will lead a tree hike to learn more about our leafy friends.

The fun continues all weekend, with tree-cookie decorating, a scavenger hunt, and a seedling to take home in a homemade newspaper pot that can be planted in your backyard. Then maybe next year you’ll have a new reason to celebrate: that little tree’s first birthday.

Free with admission. Arbor Day, April 27, 10:45 a.m.-1:45 p.m. Morton Arboretum, 4100 Illinois Route 53, Lisle. (630) 968-0074, mortonarb.org.
