In lap of luxury, a spot for kids at Swissotel

For 30 years SwissĂ´tel has focused on luxury and sophistication. Its kid-friendly hotel program successfully introduces children into that mix. From VIK (Very Important Kids) check-in to themed suites, SwissĂ´tel maximizes luxury for adults and fun for kids.

The hotel’s commitment to valuing all guests, no matter their age, is immediately apparent at check-in. The front desk offers flavored waters and mini-cupcakes. Children are welcomed at their own mini-desk stocked with books, crayons and a chalkboard. They also each receive their own VIK packet, with coloring pages, fact sheets and word searches related to city museums.

When you book a Kids’ Suite, the hotel decorates the children’s room in the museum theme of your choice (Adler, Field or Shedd). We chose Adler Planetarium so my sons entered an outer space-theme room, from rocket bed sheets to solar system books on the shelves. The package also includes admission passes for your museum.

Activities in the room are designed around the ages of the guests, so we found books and board games for age 8 and up and building blocks for my 5-year-old. Their bathroom was decorated as well, and stocked with bright towels and no-tear shampoos and lotions. No sooner had my sons discovered these treasures than the doorbell rang. We answered to find a delivery of cookies and milk for an afternoon treat. These are the kind of details that make it possible for parents to relax in their own luxurious accommodations.

Although we were all happy to hang out in our suite, we did make our way to the 42nd floor for a splash in the hotel’s pool. There we found other families enjoying the views and not-too-hot Jacuzzi hot tub. On Sunday morning we were happy to find that kids eat free at the concourse level Geneva restaurant, making brunch for five an affordable option. With two restaurants and a lounge/coffee shop, there is little need to ever leave SwissĂ´tel, but its East Lakeview location is steps (or short cab rides) away from a host of downtown destinations.

Still, each time we ventured out, my kids were eager to return to the suite. I have never found my sons happier to stay in one room than they were at SwissĂ´tel.
