6 Chicago stores to stock up on baby gear

Back when I was an infant in the late ’80s, the options for trendy baby clothing and hip nursery decor were slim (not to mention, pretty darn tacky in retrospect). These days, Chicago parents can dress their little darlings (and their nurseries) in style, thanks to these sweet, local boutiques.

Twinkle Twinkle Little One

Whether you’re stumped when it comes to baby gifts or wanting something unique for your own child, Twinkle Twinkle has got you covered. The store offers modern furniture and dreamy children’s bedding alongside funky art prints and whimsical pop-up books. Want to send something to a friend out of state? No worries, the shop can ship gifts anywhere inside the US for a small fee, so you won’t have to make an extra stop at the post office. The boutique just opened its second location in Highland Park, making it even easier for you North Suburb parents to score cute baby goods.

Galt Toys + Galt Baby

Pssst, expecting parents: This is the place you’ll want to register at. From designer strollers to stylish high-chairs (yep, even high chairs can be chic), Galt’s selection of baby gear is top notch. The store also offers educational toys, furniture and bath accessories. Plus, Galt will help you out long after you’ve left their store. The store’s service center offers car seat installation, stroller repair and upholstery cleaning for a small fee (to the total delight of parents everywhere, I must say).

Monica + Andy

Does it get any sweeter than selecting a baby’s hospital outfit? Monica & Andy’s precious Cuddle Boxes have everything you need for your little one’s first few days, including a blanket, two onesies, a knit cap and pants, all made from organic cotton. Plus, you can select the items in adorable prints, ranging from chess pieces to ice cream cones. The store also offers other box sets, with options for each age range. The clothing pieces can even be monogrammed, making them the perfect gift for a friend.

Kido

If you want to stock up on onesies, look no further than Kido. The South Loop shop carries some of the coolest graphics clothing in town for kids. Can you just picture your baby rocking the vote and representing their city in these onesies? This store is also located in Roosevelt Collection Shops, so save some time to shop for yourself while you’re there.

1137 S. Delano Ct. E, Chicago

The Red Balloon

The shop is known around Chicago for their initial t-shirts (available in newborn to 6 years), but The Red Balloon also offers colorful kid’s clothing, inventive toys and personalized nursery decor. Have a Cubs fan in your life? This is the place to score an adorable mini jersey for your little team player. Added bonus: the store hosts many free story times and events throughout the year at both their Lakeview and Bucktown locations.

1940 N. Damen Ave., Chicago & 3651 N. Southport Ave., Chicago

Geppetto’s Toy Box

There are a lot of gifts that are appreciated by new parents, but plastic toys are not among them. Instead, check out this cozy Oak Park spot for high quality, educational play toys, board books, puzzles and handmade items that will delight children for years to come. Even better, the shop offers gift wrapping, concierge ordering, delivery & assembly and gift registry to make your shopping experience a total breeze.
