Halloween Day fun for toddlers and preschoolers

While elementary schoolers are encouraged to wear costumes to school on Halloween, toddlers are no longer stuck sitting at home waiting for trick-or-treating to start. Parks departments, play spaces and museums across the Chicago area have parents covered when it comes to entertaining the littlest Halloweenies on the holiday. 

City

Halloween Party at Kid City

Time: 10 a.m.-12:30 p.m.

Where: Kid City, 1837 West Grand Ave.

Cost: $30 per child/adult combo; $15 per sibling age 1 and older; $6 additional adult.

Festivities will include playtime, pizza, festive treats, spooky crafts, a costume parade, photo booth and much more.

North Suburbs
Halloween Party at Yu Kids

Time: 10 a.m.-12:30 p.m.

Where: Yu Kids Island, Woodfield Mall, Schaumburg & Hawthorn Mall, Vernon Hills

Cost: Free with regular admission

Dress in costume and make photo frames, color skeletons and pumpkins and enjoy sweets like cookies and pastries. 

Western Suburbs

Pumpkin Fest

Time: 9 a.m.-5 p.m.

Where: Cosley Zoo, 1356 Gary Ave., Wheaton

Cost: Free with zoo admission

Rides, a corn stalk tunnel and more await kids, in between the thousands of pumpkins scattered throughout the lawn at Wheaton’s Cosley Zoo. Pumpkins, apples and cider are amongst the many available fall items to purchase.

Halloween Monster Mash

Time: 9 a.m.-1 p.m.

Where: Yorktown Center, 203 Yorktown Center, Lombard

Cost: Free

Meet at the lower level near Marshalls and Last Chance for a family-friendly Halloween party that includes a magic show, face painting, balloon artist, music, pumpkin painting, treats and more. 

Halloween Storytime

Time: 11:30 a.m.-noon

Where: Learning Express Toys, 2863 95th Street, Naperville

Cost: Free, preregistration requested

Read a Halloween story, make tissue paper candy corn, and parade the costumes of your 18-month-old to 6-year-old around the store. Registration requested to verify supply count.

South Suburbs

Pumpkin Patch and Tractor Rides

Time: TBA

Where: First United Methodist Church, Oak Lawn

Cost: Free

The pumpkin patch at First United Methodist Church in Oak Lawn is open through Halloween with tractor rides, games, pumpkins, a straw toss and spots for family photos.

Halloween Party for Babies & Toddlers

Time: 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.

Where: Gemini Gymnastics Academy, 330 Washington Ave., La Grange

Cost: Free

Join Gemini Gymnastics for Halloween activities, games and fun best for babies and toddlers.    

Area-wide

Kids Eat Free at McAlister’s Deli

Kids ages 12 and under in costume can eat a kid’s menu item free with the purchase of an adult entree from 10:30 a.m.-9 p.m. Check the website for participating restaurants.
