11 Veterans Day Events for Chicago Families

Here are some ways to show your support for our veterans.

We’ve been honoring veterans for their service as a national holiday for more than 100 years now. This Veterans Day, it’s important for you and the family to think about it more than another day off of school. Here are some local events to help you honor veterans.


Nov. 11, 2021

National Veterans Art Museum

The museum will have special open hours in honor of the veteran’s community. Throughout the day, they will host guided tours, drop-in activities and poppy making workshops.

The Pritzker Military Museum & Library is offering free admission for everyone on Nov. 11 in honor of Veterans Day.

North/Northwest Suburbs

Veterans Day Ceremony

See the ceremony put together by the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #3579. All are welcome.

Veterans 5K Run & Walk

 Nov. 13, 2021

This patriotic-themed race allows the entire family to participate while supporting The Veterans Drop-In Center in Rockford. Kids can join the 5K or take place in the Kids Fun Run (ages 10 and under) before the 5K begins.

South Suburbs

The parade will begin at Southfield College Prep and move east on Sauk Trail to Richton Park Metra Commuter Lot.

The 19th Annual Veterans Day Parade is hosted by the Village of Hillside and the Broadview/Hillside American Legion Post #626.

The city of Aurora holds its annual Veterans Day Parade to recognize local military service men and women. The event will include a ceremony with a military rifle salute by veteran organizations at 11 a.m.

The American Legion Post 76’s annual ceremony will feature flag presentation and “Taps” followed by a moment of silence for all that have lost their lives.
