We’ve been honoring veterans for their service as a national holiday for more than 100 years now. This Veterans Day, it’s important for you and the family to think about it more than another day off of school. Here are some local events to help you honor veterans.

The museum will have special open hours in honor of the veteran’s community. Throughout the day, they will host guided tours, drop-in activities and poppy making workshops.

The Pritzker Military Museum & Library is offering free admission for everyone on Nov. 11 in honor of Veterans Day.

Veterans Day Ceremony

Veterans 5K Run & Walk

- Address: 1288 Elmwood Road, Rockford
This patriotic-themed race allows the entire family to participate while supporting The Veterans Drop-In Center in Rockford. Kids can join the 5K or take place in the Kids Fun Run (ages 10 and under) before the 5K begins.

The 19th Annual Veterans Day Parade is hosted by the Village of Hillside and the Broadview/Hillside American Legion Post #626.

The city of Aurora holds its annual Veterans Day Parade to recognize local military service men and women. The event will include a ceremony with a military rifle salute by veteran organizations at 11 a.m.
