The best playgrounds near me: Southwest suburbs

My husband and I love living in the southwest suburbs. The Homer Glen/Lemont area is quiet and a great place raise a child. During our free time, we enjoy taking our 1-year-old son Marcelino to nearby parks.

Here are of our two favorites.

Centennial Park

16028 127th St, Lemont, IL 60439

Best for: All ages

Why kids love it: There is a wide variety of activities for kids, including playground equipment, numerous sporting fields and courts, a skateboard park, a picnic area and a walking trail. What more could kids want?

Why parents love it: The park is steps away from the Lemont Park District. It’s extremely convenient if the kids are taking a summer class or simply want to visit the public pool or gym.

Good to know: There are always several parking spots available. There are also public restrooms located inside of the Lemont Park District during normal business hours.

Culver Memorial Park

14600 S. Parker Road, Homer Glen IL 60491

Best for: All ages

Why kids love it: Sports fanatics love Culver Memorial Park because of the baseball/softball fields and fishing pond. But kids who aren’t involved in sports can still enjoy playing on all of the playground equipment or having a picnic in the park.

Why parents love it: The park is so big and open, so even when it tends to get very busy on weekends, it doesn’t feel overcrowded.

Good to know: There are a significant amount of parking spots but there are no public restrooms available.
