Candy sushi is the sweet treat taking over Chicagoland

Love sushi? Then don’t miss out on trying the newest, sweetest sushi to hit the Chicagoland area: candy sushi!  Sweet Sushi Factory is the latest venture from the sisters who brought us The Heart of Europe Café in Barrington. The sweet owners, sisters Kasia and Emilia, were both pregnant when they each had a bad craving for sushi. So what’s a pregnant momma to do? They decided to make their own sushi, but with a twist: sushi made from candy! Soon after, their online store, Sweet Sushi Factory, was born and now all pregnant mommas (or any momma, dad or kid!) can enjoy sweet sushi. Better yet, all Sweet Sushi Factory sushi is nut free, gluten-free and dairy free, so even those with dietary restrictions and allergies can enjoy these treats!

At first glance, you may be tricked into believing that you are eating actual sushi. The sisters have thought of every detail. The delectable desserts come packaged nicely in a sushi take out tray and chopsticks add to the experience. The real star though is the sushi itself. You’ll find sushi rolls made with rice cereal instead of rice; Fruit Roll Ups instead of seawood; lemon drops instead of fish eggs (ikura); Swedish fish replaces real fish; licorice twists and marshmallows can be found inside the rolls. Everything is so creative, but most of all delicious! My little helpers had a fun time choosing their favorites then savoring each bite. In the end, their opinion was unanimous — they loved it! They are already requesting a tray for their birthdays!

These two sisters are no strangers to all the sweet things. Their cute café/bakery/coffee shop, The Heart of Europe Café, located in the heart of Barrington provides the most awesome kurtos, or chimney cakes. And get this, the little ones are kept busy in a little play area, so parents can enjoy sipping on coffee. Unlike their chimney cakes (which we also love!), the sushi can be shipped anywhere nationwide. If you happen to be local, pickup is also available at their café in Barrington. Choose from different packages or customize your own. They are more than willing to help you out.
