End of summer bucket list picks

This summer, my family and I embarked on a mission to uncover all the family-friendly hot spots in the Northwest suburbs of Chicago. And while we had a blast exploring the nearby towns, we still haven’t gotten around to doing a few things on our summer bucket list. Check out a few more things to add to the calendar before summer officially comes to an end on September 23.

Scope out cars at the final Motor Mondays of the season on September 7 where nearly a hundred cars are displayed throughout the downtown district. Located in East Dundee, the fun family-friendly evening event features a live DJ playing car-themed music, free raffles and Motor Monday food specials from downtown restaurants.

Cool off at a waterpark like Rainbow Falls Waterpark (Elk Grove Village) or Atcher Island (Schaumburg).

Watch horses gallop and speed through. Sundays are family fun days at Arlington Park National Racecourse. Close out the summer with a bang at this Sunday’s final Family Day activities that includes Labor Day entertainment.

Travel back in time at the Fox River Trolley Museum. Visit on September 20 and 27 during Caboose Days for a chance to ride with the conductor in the Big Red Caboose or Locomotive.
