It never fails. Every year, thousands of women make resolutions to do things differently. Some vow to lose weight and others to lead a healthier lifestyle.
If yours is to make a little more time for yourself in the style department, then allow me to give you a few pointers.
I’ve made a few style resolutions myself, and now that we are three months into the New Year I’ve only kept up with one. But with spring and summer slowly approaching, I’m hoping to keep up with the other two.
After researching ways to keep up with my resolutions, I found an interesting article . . .
Recent research has shown that while 52 percent of participants in a resolution study were confident of success with their goals, only 12 percent actually achieved their goals. Furthermore, the same study shows that women succeeded 10 percent more when they made their goals public and got support from their friends.
So grab your girlfriend and make things happen with these three easy-to-follow steps.
Know your body
Most think that the secret to being stylish lies in the ability of picking out clothes and following trends. That couldn’t be further from the truth. Identifying your body type is the initial step. Knowing your body type will help you determine what will and will not work for you, hence making getting dressed a little easier.
Once you’ve done that you’re half way there.
Get Comfortable
Comfort is the epitome of style.
Choosing clothing that is comfortable never means having to forgo looking good. The key to having the best of both worlds is to simply opt for pieces that feel great on!
For one, fabrics play a huge role! Always choose one that feels soft on your skin. With warmer months around the corner, opting for lighter, breathable textures is never a bad idea.
Apart from fabric, fit is also very important. I personally love loose fitting tops as I feel most comfortable in them.
But the “fit” does not necessarily refer to how loose or tight the garment is, but also to its size. I always encourage ladies to have a tailor. Why? Because we shop in stores that make sizes for the general public and sometimes those sizes just don’t work for us. A dress could be the perfect length but may need to be taken in just a little bit. A tailor can have that taken in for less than a week’s worth of coffees, and voila! You have the perfect fit.
Think about it
Did you know that dressing affects the mind? I recently read an article on Vogue.com which explored a theory based on a study published on the Journal of Experimental Social Psychology’s website.
The study tested people on their ability to perform based on their attire. Subjects were divided in groups. Some donned white coats that (they) thought belonged to doctors while the others wore street clothes. The study proved that those in the white coats performed better than those in street clothes and that their focus was heightened when they actually put on the coats.
The phenomenon is called “enclothed cognition” meaning that if your brain links certain pieces of clothing or brands to certain events or situation, you’re likely to take on those attributes when you wear those items.
Since reading that article it takes me twice as long to get dressed.
Now that you have these tools in hand, go forth and be stylish!
