Strip mall surprises, part III: Meadow Shopping Plaza Shopping Center

In my unending, albeit semi-closeted, adoration for strip malls (part I and part II), I’d be remiss to leave out the one I visit almost daily: Meadow Shopping Plaza on the southeast corner of Meadow Road and Cherry Lane in Northbrook. The most obvious draw for me is my friendly neighborhood Starbucks. But I’ve happily learned that a few local gems make their home here, too.

Turn the Tables

Just after moving to Northbrook from San Francisco a year ago, I stopped into Turn the Tables for what I figured would be 10 minutes. An hour later, I emerged with many a-treasure in hand. Turn the Tables carries upscale consignment furniture and home decor, from bar stools to bookcases, dresses to desks. Through an in-house studio, the skilled staff can also revitalize chairs, sofas and tables with decorative painting, wallpapering and architectural embellishments.
