Summer vacation is winding down, and with school approaching we try to get in as many outings as we can. And whether it’s going to a splash pad, a park or the zoo, it’s usually geared toward my younger two children. My teen, Laila, however, is going through that stage where nothing really entertains her, especially children’s outings. So I asked her what a fun day out would consist of and her reply was eating good food and even better dessert.
I knew where we could get just that: Rosemont! We have visited Rosemont just a couple of times before and she loved it; the lively atmosphere, the good food, and of course, her favorite part, Sugar Factory. And because Laila isn’t the only one in the house with a major sweet tooth–my daughter Jennah has one as well–we decided to make it a girls day out.
Sugar Factory
5445 Park Place, Rosemont, IL
Our fun day out began with chocolate, chocolate and more chocolate! Even though there’s a 12 year gap between the two (Laila is 16 and Jennah is 4), they both bond over chocolate and where is there a better place to get your chocolate fix than at Sugar Factory? It’s a chocolate lover’s dream! The super cute restaurant is perfect for a date with the girls; we’ve yet to try the food, but we’re excited to soon. Oh and their ice cream is great! We always share a brownie sundae which is more than enough for 3-5 people.
Kings Bowl America
5505 Park Place, Rosemont, IL
After having our chocolate fix and buying plenty to take home (Tip: It’s sold by the weight so it adds up fast.), we walked over to Kings Bowl to release some energy. In the winter, the ice skating rink is open and that would be our go-to, but during the summer, bowling is fun.
Kings Bowl is only appropriate during the day for children. After 8 p.m. you must be 21 and over to enter. After working up an appetite while bowling we ordered some food from Kings Pin, which I have to say was really, really good. I had the steak tips, with buttered green beans and mashed potatoes, and I would go back just to have those steak tips again! The girls ordered burgers which were also real good.
Muvico
9701 Bryn Mawr Ave, Rosemont IL
Last but not least, to end our girls day out, we walked over to Muvico to watch Ice Age. Yes, Laila still loves watching cartoons. Who doesn’t?
Muvico is unlike your typical theater. It’s very clean with nice roomy chairs that recline. You can also reserve your seats ahead of time to get the spots you want, which I love because I have to sit in the middle row, middle seat. (I know, I know! It’s just one of those things.) The premier section of the theater has larger chairs and the option to order food so you can eat while you watch your movie. The prices in this section are bit more expensive but you do get a small popcorn for free.
Overall it was a fun day spent in Rosemont. It was nice to just drive to one location and be able to have a full day’s worth of activities. And all of the places listed above validate tickets so parking ended up being free. We’re definitely planning to go back in the winter so we can skate at the rink!
