The Secret Mermaid

  • Near Oakwood and 41st Street Beach, Chicago

Shhhhh, on a lovely little beach off Oakwood Boulevard rests a secret mermaid. The Secret Mermaid was sculpted in the middle of the night by guerilla artists in the late 1980s. Once discovered by government officials, she was swept away into storage. In 2007, a group of students worked to get the mermaid out of hiding and near the shore. You can find her near the bike path on the Lakefront Trail.
