Best Kid-Friendly Restaurants in Skokie

These family-friendly dining options cater to both kids' palates and parents' peace of mind.

Finding a place to dine out with kids in tow can be tricky. Do they have highchairs? Do they offer anything my child will eat? Do they offer anything other than coloring sheets to keep my child busy?

Luckily, there’s a slew of family-friendly restaurants in and around Skokie that check all of the boxes. Here are a few of our favorites.

Dengeo’s

With an extensive, child-approved menu consisting of grilled cheese, chicken fingers, hot dogs, and pasta, even the pickiest of eaters will be hard-pressed to find something to turn their noses up to. Serving up classic American and Greek fare in a counter service-style setting, Dengeo’s delivers on taste while allowing families to eat out on a reasonable budget. The best part for littles? Free balloons in an assortment of colors and a giant gumball machine.

Uncle Julio’s

Located at Old Orchard Mall, Uncle Julio’s is a fan favorite for kids. While waiting for their main course, they can munch on free chips and salsa or watch a machine hand press tortillas on a small conveyor belt. Get ready for the “ooohs” and “ahhs” as a chef makes tableside guacamole. But the real star at this establishment is the final course – a chocolate pinata. Brought to the table with a wooden mallet, family members can take turns smashing it open to reveal fresh fruit and homemade churros. Finish it off by dunking it in homemade dipping sauces and whipped cream.

Walker Brothers Original Pancake House

Just a short drive from Skokie in Wilmette, this diner-style eatery is perfect for kiddos with a sweet tooth. True to its name, this weekend staple serves up specialty pancakes ranging from banana and Georgia pecan to its famous giant apple pancake. Filled with fresh apples and cinnamon sugar glaze, the portion is big enough to satisfy the whole family two times over. Parents, bring coloring books or the iPad, as this creation takes about 45 minutes to cook, but believe us, it is well worth the wait.
