Five & Dime

Located in downtown Evanston above Taco Diablo and Lulu’s, Five & Dime offers fun for the whole family. A game room inside houses vintage pinball machines and ping pong tables, and the rooftop is always alive with friendly competitions of giant Jenga and Connect Four. They also offer kid staples like burgers, hot dogs and nachos. Save room for their chocolate pudding dessert.

Firehouse Grill

An Evanston tradition, kids will love learning the history of Firehouse Grill, which is housed in a decommissioned firehouse from the early 1900’s. Picky eaters rejoice — Firehouse is chock full of grilled cheese, quesadillas, pasta, milkshakes (Oreo and cookie dough) and other kid-friendly fare. Little ones will enjoy fire truck toys that can be taken to the table to play with.

Todoroki

What child can resist an onion volcano, choo-choo train or Hibachi chef squirting sauce into their mouth? Whether your child will eat the food or not, they are in for a traditional Hibachi show at Todoroki. Kids ages 11 and under can get the works (soup, protein, rice, veggies) for half the price of an adult entree. If you’ve got a picky eater, opt for white rice or ask the chef to whip up some scrambled eggs!

Union Squared

While deep dish is the obvious choice for most Chicagoans, Detroit-style pan pizza is having its moment, and we are here for it. Take the family to Union Squared Evanston, a laid-back casual eatery serving up to 11 staple pies. While waiting for the delicious pies to cook to perfection, there’s giant Jenga or bocce to keep everyone entertained.
