Carrying on the family football tradition in Chicago

When I hear the words “Sunday,” “Football” and “Chicago Bears,” I’m reminded of Sunday afternoons with my dad, huddled on the couch with snacks, yelling at the television during the game. Any game. He loved football, and especially loved feeling like he was a part of the game by sharing his opinions on the official’s calls.

As the years went on, the television sets in our home got bigger and bigger. Usually this “upgrade” in TV size came within a week or two of the start of the football season. It wasn’t every year this happened; but when it did it was always right before that first Sunday in the fall.

One of my favorite memories was a time that I was paged from my teen bedroom to help him rearrange the living room ASAP because it was 11 a.m. on Sunday and the new big screen television that he just purchased was being delivered in time to watch the game. The only way he agreed to buy the floor model was if they could get it to our house in time for the Bears game at noon.

Keep in mind, this was 1989 and this 48” television was in a cabinet the size of a couch.

Most girls have a fancy, Sweet 16 party complete with things that are pink and frilly. Me? I had a Monday Night Football party when the Bears played the Vikings.

I am my father’s daughter.

In our home today, Sundays are much the same way as they were during my childhood.

Laughter, family, food, football and a gigantic television that I just purchased for my new home are in keeping with the traditions of my childhood. I love that I am sharing my love of football with my family!

Given this history with the game, you can only imagine how excited we are to participate in the 2014 Chicago Bears Meijer Family Fest presented by Chase!
