It’s the first week of January and for many of us, it’s also the time of year when we promise ourselves to get back in shape. As parents, between the minimal hours you get to yourself and the dreary Chicago winter that keeps you indoors, it’s harder than ever to find the time to work out. The latest trend in exercise caters to the stay-at-home parents who can’t make it to the gym. The country’s hottest celebrity trainers host at-home streaming and online programs that let you fit your workout in when it’s most convenient for you. Here’s the scoop on our favorites.
Worth noting: each trainer has multiple videos on YouTube, so you can get a feel for what style is your favorite before you make a purchase.
Simone De La Rue of Body By Simone
Naomi Watts and Reese Witherspoon swear by De La Rue’s upbeat classes. Combining high-impact cardio dance and strength-training, you’ll be breaking a sweat in minutes. De La Rue recently debuted her first DVD, but fans of her program also love the monthly BBS TV subscription. At just $9.99 a month, it’s an affordable option to experience unlimited online workouts. Content is updated constantly so you never get tired of the same routines.
Tracy Anderson of The Tracy Anderson Method
Gwyneth Paltrow, Molly Sims and Jennifer Lopez are just a few of the famous and fit mommas who swear by Anderson’s method. While I’ve been working out to Anderson’s DVD’s for years, her newer streaming service lets you take actual live classes from the comfort of your living room ($99 a month). Anderson mixes dance cardio with toning and strengthening exercises, concentrating on the smaller accessory muscles to create a long, lean body without bulk. Additionally, if you’ve just had a baby, consider Anderson’s Post-Pregnancy Workout DVD, which focuses on helping you regain abdominal strength and eases you back into a fitness routine.
Kaiser has given Sarah Jessica Parker her enviable biceps and Kelly Ripa her super-toned abs.
Kaiser’s monthly online video streaming features 800 minutes of different 10 minute targeted workouts that you can choose and change up with each session. For $50 a month, you’ll sweat through high-impact interval training made up of cardio, upper body, lower body and core workouts. Kaiser is high-energy and will root you on through your laptop screen!
Cassey Ho of POP Pilates and Blogilates
Although Cassey Ho is not a celebrity trainer, she definitely has a celebrity-like following. The certified pilates instructor and YouTube star has more than 13 million video views on both of her YouTube channels. My favorite aspect of Ho’s videos are that they each average about six minutes and each one targets a different area. For a full body workout, you can mix different videos or if you have only 10 minutes of time, choose one area that needs a little extra work. Each segment is set to pop music and Ho’s vivacious personality will help you push through that last set of squats.
