If your child’s birthday is approaching soon, you may be racking your brain for party ideas. Planning a fun event doesn’t have to be complicated, however.
Birthday party trends are always changing and it’s fun to get creative with an one-of-kind party to make your child’s birthday special. Whether your kiddo requests an epic outdoor bash or a night in with their pals, these creative themes will make it a milestone to remember.
Encanto bash
Live it up like the Madrigals by throwing an enchanted Encanto party. The Disney movie, about a Colombian family with special powers, has become a fan favorite since its release last November, so don’t be surprised if your little one begs for a magical Encanto-themed bday bash.
For decor, Amazon has got you covered. Authentic Colombian appetizers (like arepas!) make the perfect party snack. Kids can jam out to the sing-along version of the movie on Disney+ as their activity.
Outdoor adventure
Have a child with a summer birthday? Take things outside to celebrate. Head to a local playground or adventure park, where kids can run, jump and play. Finding a facility that offers mini golf, zip lining, go-karts or batting cages is the perfect way to entertain older kids.
Keep snacks simple with energy boosting grub like granola bars and yogurt tubes, while water balloons and chalk make great favors.
Pizza party
Who doesn’t love pizza?! An easy, cheesy shindig is fun to throw together. Set up a DIY pizza building station with a variety of toppings and crusts (think pita bread, tortillas and gluten-free options) or opt for takeout ‘za.
As for entertainment, Etsy is full of pizza party games, printables and other goodies. Have your guests take home personalized pizza cutters or pizza shaped squishies as favors.Â
Tie dye soiree
We know ’90s fashion is all the rage these days, including tie dye. While this party theme is undoubtedly messy, kids will have a total blast creating their colorful masterpieces. Grab a tie dye kit from a craft store to make set up and take down easier.
Snacks should be equally vibrant, like rainbow Goldfish crackers, fruit kabobs and neon cupcakes. Each guest can bring home their creation in lieu of traditional favors.
Movie night
Bring the magic of the theater into your home by setting up a portable movie projector and screen (a sheet works well in a pinch!), creating a cozy place to lounge and loading up on lots of snacks. Cake pops or a candy station are easy options instead of a traditional birthday cake, and don’t forget the popcorn.
If you have a summer birthday kid, you can try an outdoor movie showing. Not sure what to watch? Find the best family entertainment streaming this month.
Unicorn soiree
Unicorns have been a party staple for the last few years and continue to maintain their popularity with the younger set. A whimsical unicorn soiree doesn’t have to be complicated, either. You can often find decor featuring the magical creatures at the dollar store and Target.
Add in a glittery backdrop and pastel-colored cups and plates to complete the look. Party games could include pin-the-tail-on-the-unicorn, unicorn ring toss or build-your-own unicorn headbands.
Camp out night
Sure, you could drag the family out into the wilderness for the weekend, but a camp-out at home can be just as fun (and the access to indoor plumbing is a huge plus!). Keep the birthday dinner easy by roasting hot dogs over a fire pit, passing out individual bags of chips and enjoying everyone’s favorite camping treat — s’mores.
Play backyard games like cornhole and badminton and end the evening with a round of spooky stories. Sleeping all night in a tent is optional.
Trampoline park
A low maintenance party that also gets your child’s wiggles out? Win-win. Head to the local trampoline park for the ultimate sky high celebration. Kids can bounce around for hours, then enjoy pizza and cake after they’re all tuckered out.
Super hero extravaganza
With new action-packed superhero movies hitting the big screen every few months, it’s easy to see why kids still love all things Spiderman, Wonder Woman, Captain America, The Incredibles and more.
To make the occasion extra special, buy or rent a costume of your child’s favorite character for them to wear. Guests can also get into the spirit by dressing up as their favorite hero or heroine.
