Celebrate the end of summer at these family-friendly back-to-school events in the city and suburbs.

School is almost back in session and if you’re looking to take your kids to a fun event to end the summer, check out these back-to-school events happening in Chicagoland.

Some of the events have limited capacity so make sure you register ahead of time to secure your spot.

The Back to School Bash

Aug. 3, 2024

Head to Grand Court at Woodfield Mall to celebrate going back-to-school. There will be games, crafts and more. RSVP required.

Back to School Keychains

Aug. 6, 2024

Ages 13-19 can create a back-to-school keychain using different beads and charms. Also, create pins, too. Registration required.

Back to School Party at Welles

Aug. 8, 2024

Ages 13-17 can enjoy a back-to-school party at Welles (Gideon) Park with E-Sports, a DJ and an ice cream decorating station.

Drop-In Crafternoon

Aug. 9, 16, 2024

Ages 6-13 can drop into the library to create a new craft. August’s theme is back-to-school crafts.

Back To School Bash

Aug. 10, 2024

Come out to Center Court at Yorktown Center for family-friendly fun to celebrate going back-to-school. There will be a book drive, live entertainment, spin-to-win, pop-ups and more

Bud Billiken Parade It Takes A Village Back to School Festival

Aug. 10, 2024

  • Address: Washington Park, 51st & Cottage and 51st & King, Chicago

Celebrating their 95th year, the parade features floats, bands, drill teams, dance teams and more. There will be a back-to-school festival post-parade that will include vendor shopping, free haircuts and hairstyles, on-site college admissions, job employment fair, special performances and free school supplies.

Family Storytime: Back to School Edition

Ages 3-13 can come out to North Pulaski Branch for a special family story time. The theme is back-to-school. The program is the same on both dates.

Aug. 16, 2024

Come out for custom Chicago Ridge lunch bags with goodies, photo opportunities, Dipping Dots ice cream, giveaways and more.

Back 2 School Fair

Aug. 17, 2024

Join Association House of Chicago for the 18th annual Back 2 School Fair for free school supplies and backpacks, games, health screenings, pediatric vaccines, physicals, a bubble show, raffles, balloons and more.

Back to School Story Time

Ages 4-8 can come out to Sherman Park Branch for a special family story time. The theme is back-to-school.

Back to School Bash

Aug. 19, 2024

Ages 3-12 can come out to Edgebrook Branch for crafts, games and a small bag of school supplies (while supplies last). Registration required.

Craft & Sip: Back To School Vision Boards

Aug. 19, 2024

Teens ages 13-18 can take part in creating their own back-to-school vision board while sipping on juice. Registration required.

Back to School Backpack Keychains

Aug. 20, 2024

Ages 10-19 can create a backpack keychain at West Pullman Branch. Choose from colorful beads and letters.

Back to School Tween Crafts

Aug. 24, 2024

Ages 10 and up can come out to McKinley Park Branch to create crafts and vision boards. Bring your school supplies to decorate.

Back to School Crafternoon

Aug. 26, 2024

Ages 13-19 can join Legler Regional Branch to celebrate the first day of school by decorating your notebooks and making buttons. Supplies will be provided.

Teen Zone: Back to School

Aug. 29, 2024

Ages 13-plus can come out to Dunning Branch for a fun after school hang out with crafts, video games and more.
