4 favorite Southside family activities for fall

If you’re anything like me, you are beside yourself with anticipation over the upcoming season change. I adore autumn more than any other season. The crisp cool air, the food, the crunching leaves, the cozy clothes and the warm drinks make me forget all about the impending snow.

Since we have just come off a holiday weekend, full of heat and end of summer fun, it is now time to look forward to some fall bliss with a south suburban-style Autumn Bucket List.

Go apple picking at

Garden Patch Farms

in Home Glen.

This awesome orchard is complete with several different varieties of apples and pears. It also offers our favorite fall treat: fresh, hot Apple Cider doughnuts.

Run or walk in the

Old Plank Trail 5K

in Historic Downtown Frankfort.

Take in all the gorgeous fall foliage. Follow the race with a visit to the nearby Mariano’s and grab some Pumpkin Chocolate Chip muffins.

Take a visit to

Bengston’s Pumpkin Farm

in Homer Glen.

You can pick pumpkins, drink hot cocoa, see a pig race and go on a real hayride.

Go to an authentic Oktoberfest.

Put on by the German American Heritage Center in Frankfort on Sept. 19. This fest will be complete with authentic German cuisine and music, and even has fun for kids. For a more modern take on Oktoberfest, head further south to Manteno and check out their music, food and rides on September 24-27.
