From old favorites like the Air & Water show and Chicago Botanic Garden Kite Fest to new favorites like the Windy City Rubber Ducky Derby and Tall Ships Chicago, August is heating up, and not just on the thermometer. Only a month left to pack in your summer fun, so get going!
One of Chicago’s longest-running events, the show includes a wide variety of civilian acts with daredevil pilots performing their aerial stunts in the skies above Lake Michigan.
Tall Ship’s Parade of Sail kicks-off the festivities on LakeMichigan, showcasing numerous tall ship vessels from around theworld, including Norway and Canada. Festival guests have theopportunity to walk the festival grounds, view the Tall Ships, andboard and tour participating vessels, plus festivities andeducational opportunities.
Chicago Bears Meijer Family Fest
Join coach John Fox and the 2017 Bears for a special opportunity to see the team in action at Soldier Field. Festivities outside the stadium begin at 9 a.m., followed by Bears practice at 12:30 p.m.. Families can enjoy interactive games, alumni autographs, giveaways, live music and more.
Chicago Botanic Garden’s Kite Festival
In the meadow west of Evening Island, enjoy soaring stunt-kite performances set to music by members of the Chicago Fire Kite Team and members of the Kite Society of Wisconsin & Illinois. These high-flying professionals demonstrate awesome feats of beauty and great skill. Ice cream, beverages, and many lunch options will be available for purchase on the west meadow.
Spectators cheer on more than 50,000 yellow rubber ducks during the annual Windy City Rubber Ducky Derby to benefit Special Olympics Illinois. Family entertainment includes face painting, games, free food and appearances by several sports mascots. Donated prizes will be provided to the adoptive parents of the winning ducks.
