Nearly a year after his big screen debut in “Coco,” Disney Pixar star Miguel Rivera makes his Disney on Ice debut in “Mickey’s Search Party,” and the welcome is a fanfare of music, acrobatics and brilliant ice imagery.
Miguel joins the “Party” as Mickey and the gang are on the trail of Captain Hook and his band of pirates. The merry men, led by Smee, have stolen Tinkerbell’s wand and locked the fairy in a lantern.
In an effort to free Tinkerbell from her captivity, Mickey, Minnie, Donald, Goofy and a pair of enthusiastic emcees take the audience on a trip through the stories and songs of Disney lore to restore the magic of the wand.
The show is ripe with audience participation as fans are asked to help identify stories based on map clues. As Mickey & Co. follow the map, favorite songs from “Beauty and the Beast,” “Moana,” “Toy Story,” “Coco,” “Little Mermaid” and “Frozen” guide each story and there’s no shortage of audience members singing along.
Kids will love the constant movement and seeing their favorite characters – with choices from Buzz & Woody to Ariel & Eric and a penultimate performance by the Ice Cutters of Frozen and a “Let it Go” to put everyone on their feet. Parents, meanwhile, can still be amazed by the gymnastic feats and aerial artistry of the performers.
Costumes are encouraged for kids, with multiple photo opportunities in the lobby for fans who arrive early. “Disney on Ice: Mickey’s Search Party” opened with weekend performances at Allstate Arena in Rosemont and continues its three-week stint in the Chicago area from Jan. 30-Feb. 3 at the United Center and from Feb. 7-9 in a return to Allstate Arena.
