Chicago Theatre Week is everything good about Chicago

Rest up, hydrate, and start stretching; Chicago Theatre Week is upon us again. Now in its sixth year, this program of the League of Chicago Theatres in conjunction with Choose Chicago is back with even more family-friendly options for the youngest theatergoer on up.

Smallest members of the family in tow?

We recommend the cozy, adventurous, and downright perfectly timed “Forts! Build Your Own Adventure” at Filament Theatre. Using theatrical design elements, this is one that’ll have kids and parents alike tunneling joyfully through the space — and with nary a fear of ruining the “good” couch cushions, either.

Discounted shows Feb. 11, 17, and 18, 2018

Filament Theatre, 4041 N. Milwaukee Ave., Chicago

“Paw Patrol Live! The Great Pirate Adventure” tumbles its way through town for a brief, playful stint at the Chicago Theatre. Whether your pup is a fan of Ryder and the crew or simply down for a good buccaneer bash, this search for a secret pirate treasure map will be a doggone fun time.

Discounted shows Feb. 17 and 18, 2018

Chicago Theatre, 175 N. State St., Chicago

Bigger kids who’re craving in on the action but you still want a lil’ PG with your tween?

The recently revamped Blue Man Group is a must-see for color and spectacle alone. Throw in the updates of a smart phone segment and some downright hilarious audience participation, and there won’t be a bored body in the house.

Discounted shows Feb. 8-11 and 15-18, 2018

Briar Street Theater, 3133 N. Halsted St., Chicago

Gaga for Gryffindor or would you rather hug a Hufflepuff? Regardless of house-sorting, the lightning-fast “Potted Potter” will bring out of the Hogwarts pride in everyone. The hilarious show condenses seven books into 70 minutes and yes, that includes one extremely quick game of Quidditch.

Discounted shows Feb. 9th-11, and 14-18, 2018

Broadway Playhouse at Water Tower, 175 E. Chestnut St., Chicago

And if your aim’s a little more date night or gal pal-friendly, you’re in luck, too.

Lest you think that our nation’s current tension levels are unprecedented, ATC welcomes you back to a little ol’ time called the Cuban Missile Crisis with the Chicago premiere of Basil Kreimendahl’s “We’re Gonna Be Okay.” Two middle class families with their eyes on the skies? Female empowerment? Macrame? Check, check and check.

Discounted shows Feb. 8-11, and 15-18, 2018

American Theater Company, 1909 W. Byron St., Chicago

Second City’s brand of relevant, biting comedy is like a bracing squeeze of the shoulders. “Dream Freaks Fall From Space” might not be as healing as therapy, but the musical and maniacal minds behind this one will have you rolling with laughter (which, as everyone knows, is the best medicine).

Discounted shows Feb. 8 and 13, 2018

The Second City, 1616 N. Wells St., Chicago
