How Chicago Families Are Getting Creative During Quarantine

As Chicago families stay home to help stop the spread of coronavirus, we know it’s been a stressful time with keeping kids safe and juggling e-learning at home. Some local parents are making the most of their time at home with science experiments, art projects and more. Take a look of what parents have shared in our community hashtag on Instagram — #sharechicagoparent

Quarantine Rainbows

Kids all around the world have been putting up rainbow art as a message of hope. We loved the outpouring of locals sharing their own rainbows with us including @jenniferlane and @livlittles.

Virtual Fun

We miss seeing our local businesses in person, but who says you can’t hang out with them virtually? TK Photography Chicago (who also shoots our covers for our monthly magazine) shows off their littles enjoying virtual experiences with Bubbles AcademyBuddha Belly Kids Yoga and more.

Science Experiments

Discover your inner scientist by trying out some easy science experiments at home. @mama.and.og tried out “Pouring Rain Clouds” — a popular science activity for your little ones.

Mural Tours

If you need to get out of the house, enjoy some social distancing fun with a city mural tour. @julietaonthetown spotted this mural in Wicker Park and @peroulastyle couldn’t resist snapping a photo with her kids in front of the Robin Williams mural.

Sensory Bins

Sensory bins are such an easy way to keep younger kids busy. @carolynlacolombe rounded up some great sensory table activities on her blog

Sidewalk Art

@stacylazzara has taken sidewalk chalk art to the next level with this fun quarantine project. And her kids love volunteering as her models!

Thanking Our Local Heroes

How have you supported our local heroes during this global pandemic? @toddlers.who.read gave a big thank you to our health care heroes. Join our Kind Kid Challenge bingo card game to help say thanks.

Cooking Away

Families have spent more time cooking together these days. @stl6vf‘s kids made sushi for lunch while @frostonepurltwo‘s daughter learned how to make French toast.

Balloons Galore

Balloons are popping up everywhere whether it’s for a special quarantine birthday or a simple way to bring joy. We bet @queenofthelandoftwigsnberries brought smiles to many’s faces with this colorful balloon garland.
