Baker & Nosh

The building at 1303 W. Wilson, which has been home to an attorney and an unsuccessful aldermanic candidate, has found new life with Baker& Nosh.

When it opened its doors, not only did it meet my expectations, it blew them and my low-carb diet out of the water.

Baker& Nosh is the creation of Andersonville resident Chef Bill Millholland. Millholland spent the last seven years as a chef instructor at Le Cordon Bleu College of Culinary Arts in Chicago. Before that, he spent years honing his craft in New York kitchens.

While most food establishments do their cooking and prepping in the back, Baker& Nosh chooses to bring theirs to a window display along Wilson Avenue. Passersby can get a sneak peek while Millholland and his crew work their magic creating some of their menu items. On any given day, you can pick up freshly made, reasonably priced bread, which goes along perfectly with Baker& Nosh’s unique cheese options and pâtés.

In the morning they offer coffee and lattés and have a wonderful choice of pastries. Our son loves the “pain au chocolat,” and while Mom and Dad are getting a caffeine fix, he is downing organic vanilla milk. At lunch they offer incredible soups, sandwiches, chips and flatbreads.

The best part of Baker& Nosh, however, is the outdoor garden area. We all know the little ones get restless and Baker& Nosh, knowingly or not, created the ultimate kid-friendly area. With a 6-foot cast iron fence that keeps the kids in and the city distraction out, a fountain and plenty of soft green grass, your kids will enjoy the relaxation almost as much as mom and dad. Almost.
